Remember, growing up when your mom told you not to open your eyes underwater when you were swimming in the pool? Did you know, that irritation of the eyes from pool water is a result of the chemicals being off? Theoretically, if a pool were started up properly, maintained and sanitized correctly at all times, there would be no need for additional chemicals (referred to as “Specialty Chemicals”), but we all know that this is impossible.
There are many different types of chemicals you can use to treat your pool, but the ones we are most used to is chlorine and bromine and the standard balance chemicals. In addition to these, there are several other chemicals that you may need based on what is going on in your pool. Here we give you brief rundown on some of the less familiar ones.
If your pool is cloudy, you may need a water clarifier. This may happen because you have something in your pool that the filter cannot remove such as algae or other contaminant. The clarifier will take these particles and clump them together, so that your filter can take them out of your pool.
You may need a sequestering chemical. These chemicals will remove any metals that are in your pool water. Like a clarifier, these chemicals attach themselves to the metals so that they can be removed by your filter.
Finally, you may have some staining in your pool that doesn’t require the drastic move of draining and acid washing your pool, but are unsightly enough that you want them removed. This can be accomplished by the use of stain treating chemicals that will be able to be used with your pool full.
