Here are eight ways that will keep you fit no matter what shape you are in.
1. Climb the pool walls like Spiderman, working your core and back muscles.
2. Hold a noodle with both hands at shoulder width under the water while your head stays just above the water level. Balance yourself. This will boost your endurance and work your core muscles.
3. Create several zig zag currents in the pool and then run through them. You will strengthen all your core muscles.
4. Balance on one leg. This strengthens your leg and core muscles and increases your balance.
5. Start in a lunge position with your right knee and your left leg extended straight behind you. Reach your arms straight out in front of you at chest high, palms touching fingers extended and thumbs up. Open your arms straight out to the sides, then return them to the starting position.
6. Strengthen your upper chest, back, arms and core and raise your heart rate and burn lots of calories. Straddle a noodle as if you were sitting on a horse. Pedal around the pool as fast as you can while doing the moving your arms. Sit up tall with your spine vertical and do not lean. This will force your core muscles to keep you stable.
7. Stand in a lunge with your right leg bent and your left extended behind you. Hold an inflated ball about 6 inches in diameter with both hands directly in front of your navel. Keep your shoulders down and back. Hold for thirty seconds and this will strengthen your core as you work to keep yourself upright.
8. Combine old-fashioned cardio with core strengthening by holding an inflated ball with both hands directly in front of your navel. Run across the pool as fast as you can for one minutes. Change the position of the ball works your core even harder. Try to increase your speed each time.
