Tropical Storm Isaac surprised Palm Beach County with the amount of rain that it released. It’s not uncommon to see pictures posted on Facebook and News Websites of cars with water dangerously high, or even covering a vehicle’s hood. John Bonde, Wellington’s deputy manager, declared that the city had received over 14 inches of rain.
For pool owners, the rain means more than just a rise in water levels. Did you know that the rain dilutes chemicals that had been poured into your pool? For example, the increase in water dilutes the chlorine that keeps the pool sanitary. Although you may be more interested in swimming to your neighbor’s with the flooded streets, the pools left unattended will quickly become unbalanced which can lead to even more problems.
Unbalanced water chemistry is like an unbalanced diet. If left alone for too long, it can lead to problems that are more detrimental and expensive. For example, an unbalanced pool can corrode the finish which leads to staining.
Small particles, such as algae and other contaminants, get into your pool with the storm passing. Many particles are so small that your filter cannot remove them on its own. One solution is to add a clarifier.
Clarifiers bundle the small particles and makes them into larger ones. The newly formed larger particles can then be filtered from the pool. One type of clarifier is a flocculant. This works to make particles so dense that they become heavier than water, causing them to sink. To remove the contaminants from the pool, the owner or pool manager can then just vacuum them up!
Clarifiers can be found at our Horizon Pool & Patio Wellington location, but how do you know when to use them? This specialty chemical is used when the water in the pool is cloudy. This may be due to poor filtration and the diluted chlorine.
Some pool owners may not have the tools necessary to test the water, or know how to fix the levels of chemicals once they are set off. That is why Horizon Pool & Patio would like to do the work for you. Their professionals are trained to use titrate tests that accurately show whether the water chemicals are “balanced.”
So, let the professionals get your pool back in order so that when the rain subsides you can get back to enjoying your clean and clear pool.
