It’s been a hot summer, and your pool has been your saving grace. There’s nothing like a dip in that sparkling, blue water when the sun is shining and the thermometer reads 90+ degrees! You love your pool so much, and then summer ends. The kids are back in school, and everyone is busier. Then, the weekend rolls around, and you have out-of-town guests, but your pool’s too cold to go in. Plan ahead! Find out about the selection of pool heaters available and make your pool a year-round source of fun and exercise. When you’re ready to look for a heating system, you’ll find out quickly that there are three styles to consider.
The first option is a gas-powered swimming pool heater. This type of heat system requires a propane tank or a natural gas hookup. The main benefit of gas heating is the speed at which it can make your pool toasty warm. Plus, gas heat keeps your pool or spa at a constant temperature no matter what temperature the air is. The higher cost to run this system is its drawback.
A heat pump is another option for heating your pool. This system works by removing heat from the air and using it to heat the pool water. Heat pumps offer a great cost savings over gas systems. In fact, they are one third the cost to run! They are very dependable at keeping your water comfortable unless the mercury drops extremely low—not a major problem here in South Florida.
A final option to consider is solar heating. This type of system uses solar panels which are mounted on your roof to gather those powerful South Florida rays. Solar heats the water from the swimming pool directly, by pumping it through solar panels which conduct the sun’s heat into the pool water. The great thing about this system is that the heat is free! Mother Nature does her part, and then the heat is transferred to your pool water by your existing pool pump.. Adding heating to its tasks doesn’t increase your bill at all. Solar heating has the potential to increase your pool by 10-14 degrees.
